ABOUT

"Bristol-based Bass player since
1980 involved in the vibrant music scene in the south west"
involved in various musical projects /bands in Bristol.
"Ian Vallin is one of the scene's most active bass
players available for sessions live or studio"
Moved to the Bristol area in 1980 from London
after leaving Darlington in the North East of England with Zip Vixen to seek fortune and fame
in Englands capital lasting 3 years.
Established a connection with a Bristol studio
"Cave studio" St Pauls Bristol.
This was to prove a useful way of meeting local musicians on the scene at the time.
Thanks to Bill Ferrier and Andy Allen owners of
Cave I helped on sessions that required a bass
player in various styles.
This led to a meeting and session with John Tippet and Samantha Howard local singer song writers.See Youtube link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gq5RalmDLlc
This meeting brought together a cross section of musicians to form a backing band for John and Sam including Richard Bloom ( guitar vox) and Andy Allpass ( keys) and Gerry O'Reardon (drums).
The Howard-Tippet band was born !
This Band played around the Southwest of England from 1983 to mid 90's.
Richard Bloom,Andy Allpass, Mike Hoddinott
And myself formed Rival Attraction later on
while still working with The Howard Tippet band.
this band went through various musical changes
over the years. The last version of this band has some live fusion cover tracks and studio originals that you can listen to at this link https://soundcloud.com/rival-attraction
While gigging recording with the above bands I
auditioned for a band in Bristol "Full Circle" jazz/rock band and was invited to play with them
which introduced me to two musicians that I have had the pleasure to be involved with in various musical projects Mike Hoddinott (drums) and Nigel Jeffries ( keys ).
From These initial introductions to the Bristol scene way back then a rich and diverse musical
journey began up until the present time.
2020 was a deciding factor in leaving the city life
to start a new adventure moved to Aberystwyth in west wales December 2020.
Looking forward to establishing new musical opportunities exciting times !
